The Sunken Garden Project

When the dirt was thrown up on this site 40 years ago to dig out the dam, there was a depression as it all fell from the shovel. This I decided would be the Secret/Sunken Garden inspired by a favourite childhood book ‘The Secret Garden'.

It will not be visible until you walk through a turning tunnel pergola with grapes shrouding the 'reveal'.

Voila, the blue mosaic mandala, a frog pond with solar powered trickling water at one end and eventually a rocket stove seat where people can gather, play music and be together and share being outside and protected on bitter cold days and high summer days.

At the moment the mosaic is slowly being designed and completed. It kind of tells me what is next as I go along. The grout colour will definately be a big moment. It's got to be just right.

Mosaic 1 - note the vertical tiles about to be fixed

Mosaic 2 - note the dry landscape and it's winter!!  I am establishing a green bank descending to the gravel base. Can you spot the solar panel for the pond?

The path downwards will be a 'turning tunnel' pergola with grapevines trailing over leading you down into this hidden space.
