Learn piano online... learn anything online!

Keeping community alive

The virus has made me think about the term ‘social distancing’. I’d rather call it physical distancing because we have the net and the phone to keep our social bonds close. I've been thinking about how quickly some of us humans distance ourselves from one another even at the best of times. And how critical it is to challenge this at the moment and look after one another.

Because I’ve been fortunate to be teaching online piano for several years now which I began because of our existing remoteness, I’ve been reflecting on my accrued skills which came by just having a go out of necessity.

I have reached the point where I believe it’s possible to teach any skill online. It just takes thought, language, sensitivity, patience, humour and gathering some tricks using our other senses, since there is no touch available.

So today on Facebook I offered to my fellow Victorians a free one hour session to advise anyone with a skill they wish to share online with people who are self-isolating. 9 AM Monday mornings, Melbourne time. Trial period for a month. Max. size 20 heads. They email me at unmani52@gmail.com and let me know the size of the group they wish to teach and the skill they wish to impart.I'll help with advice about how to set up, how to get the teaching space sorted, how to help the student set up plus how to get some key concepts across dependent on what is being learnt of course.
